Safety Info

NO PARTIES ARE ALLOWED. We want everyone to have a great time during their stay, spend time with friends and family and make memories to last a lifetime. However, we ask that you and your guests maintain a respectful level of noise while on property and be mindful of other duplex guests as well as our year-round neighbors on the beach lane.

The town does has a local noise ordinance:  9pm - 8am. This is strictly enforced by local police and lane residents. The police will issue tickets for noise violations to both the guests AND the property owner, which will result in us immediately terminating your reservation, without refund and removal from the property.

The space is equipped with new, electronic smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. They have audible alarms, which will shout SMOKE or CARBON MONOXIDE, depending on what is detected. If these alarms are triggered, and it is not a false alarm from basic cooking smoke, then call the fire department and then the host.
If you ACCIDENTALLY set off the smoke detectors while cooking, please open the windows and doors until the smoke dissipates. Then the smoke detector will stop alarming and return to ready mode. (You can also try to push the round button on the detector face also labeled HUSH. This should stop the shrieking as you clear out mild smoke.)

Operating instructions can be found here.

*Tampering with smoke detectors will trigger a warning to the host and is prohibited under the House Rules.

First floor exits:

During a fire, please use the front, side, or back doors and windows as exits.

Second floor exits:

During a fire you can use the staircase to exit the building. If the staircase is not accessible, then you can also use the second floor bedroom windows to exit the home. Many of the windows open up to the front porch roof or lower back roof,  giving you easier access to the ground level.

Third floor exist:

During a fire you can use the staircases to exit the building. If the staircases are not accessible, then you can use the Fire Escape Ladders that are located on the third floor under the windows.  The front window ladder will lower you to the porch roof, for easy access to the ground floor. The side window ladder length is 3 floors to the ground level.

You will need to unlock the Child Safety Guards on the windows by pressing in the buttons, with the red dots, until they click and are flush with the window frame, allowing you to open the window to its full height.

Then remove the white cover to the ladder storage box, which is marked with a red sign titled, 'Fire Escape Ladder.' Remove and use the fire ladder as per the directions here.

The kitchen is a mighty, and has all kinds of new equipment, especially new, sensitive smoke detectors.

When you are cooking you need turn on the hood vent, located under the microwave. The fan power buttons are on the bottom of the microwave control pad. In addition, you should open one of the kitchen window. Proper ventilation will keep the smoke detectors from being accidentally triggered, as the detectors are new and very sensitive.

Child Safety Window Guards on floor 2 and floor 3:

The window guards are engaged on all second and third floor windows. These window guards will only allow the window to open three inches in order to allow for air circulation. You will need to disengage these auto guards locks in order to open the windows fully or to use as escape exit during an emergency.

If you have small children you should keep the window guards engaged.
